When you sit in an airport for 8 hours like I did in New Jersey, you find ways to occupy your time. Here is 10 ideas I came up with.
1) People watch. This is an obvious choice, but definitely a good one. Airports never cease to provide all sorts of people from different backgrounds.
2) As you people watch, make up stories about where they're traveling to. Write the narrative of their lives.
3) Walk around the airport at least once every hour. Not only is this a way to see what's in the airport, but it is also good exercise. Personally, I added listening to my favorite rap/hip-hop songs while walking such as: Dust off yo Shoulders by Jay-Z. Turn up the music, jam out, and you'll feel like you're walking on a runway.
4) Find a coffee shop other than Starbucks. Starbucks is great, but some airports (especially the large ones) have great, smaller cafes.
5) Become friends with a local employee. As I walked through the airport, I constantly passed this man hoping I would sign up for a Chase credit card. Sadly, I did not. Though, he and I ended up laughing and making some hilarious remarks to one another as I would stroll on by.
6) See what local shops there are and try to find the most random or hilarious one. (see picture below)
Clearly, this store has all things America has to offer. It made me laugh. 'Merica!
7) Write a random note and leave it for someone to find. Example: "You're perfect just the way you are. Have a wonderful day!"
8) Try to count the amount of Smart or iPhones. This is almost impossible it seems, but in approximately 5 minutes I counted 30 Smart and iPhones.
9) Time how long it takes you to walk on a moving sidewalk. Or, if you're a cute little girl you say, "Look Mom! It's another magical sidewalk! I wish we could go on it!" I found it hard not to laugh.
10) Relax and enjoy the time to just be. It isn't often in this society that we aren't busy doing something. Take the time to do nothing and listen to your favorite tunes or read.
Of course there are a number of things you can do in an airport in 8 hours, but these are my personal favorites. Enjoy!
