Food for Thought

Food is something everyone loves. And if you try to deny that, then I personally think you are outright telling a lie. What isn't there to love? I have had many a conversation about my favorite dish or what foods I love most. I've also had many a great conversation over food. Meals are something that brings us together and binds us in community. So, in thinking about a blog post, I thought "Why now write about some typical foods I eat every week in the UK?!" So here you have a detailed account of my semi-typical diet in the UK:

Let's start with Sunday. At the hostel, there is the Sunday Fry up in the afternoon. This meal consists of baked beans, sausage a couple different varieties, tater tots, black pudding, scrambled eggs, and such. Then there is the Sunday Roast in the evening. This meal takes a lot of time and is often quite big. It include roast (big surprise there), roasted potatoes or potatoes of some form, chicken, a veggie, and a dessert (or pudding or afters as some like to call it).

Throughout the week, the meals can consist of any number of things. These include:

-Meat pies and beans. This pie is basically a pastry filled with meat and baked. It is then served with baked beans on top.

- Stovies. This is a Scottish dish that contains potatoes, onion, maybe some veggies, and meat (often beef or corned beef or mince).

-Lentil soup or some sort of veggie soup and sandwiches.

- Beans on toast. This is literally baked beans on toast. It is scrumptious.

- Curry. We often have a varieties of curries made during the week. This is my favorite.

-Fish and Chips. Every Friday is fish and chips for dinner. Delicious!

Of course there are other dishes that are made daily, but these are ones that you can find to me mainly a part of the UK diet. These ones listed above are ones I have found to be quite lovely and delicious...minus the black pudding.

Cheers!
