The lightning danced on it's toes while the thunder sung low.

I love rainy days.
Well, not if every day is rainy, but certain rainy days just have a way of making you slow down.
This morning, as the coffee was brewing and I was watching a documentary on poverty in the Appalachia Mountains it started to rain. Immediately, I had a sense of calm. I love how cozy indoors feels when it is raining outside. Its like you can only curl up and appreciate the beauty of the moment. Yeah, rainy days stink when you are planning an event outside or something, but in the midst of the end of the semester and a major flood I welcome the rain. I'm reminded that I need to slow down. Life is far too crazy and I do way too much. Mental health days are so incredibly valuable and important- I'm learning that more and more.
It is crazy that we've been taught socially to ignore the cues that our minds and bodies give us that we need to just take a breather until we are bedridden because of sickness or have an emotional break down from stress. I know that I am guilty of both.
Take time to just sit. Breathe. Listen to the rain. It is like Mother Nature is giving us the opportunity to stay indoors, enjoy a cup of coffee and have a conversation with a friend or to read that book we haven't had the time to pick up. And don't feel guilty for not doing anything. Enjoy it.

A good song to listen to on rainy days is Rain by Hana Pestle.
